
Mezzo-soprano Melanie Nicol graduated from the University of Lethbridge with a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance and completed her Master’s degree in vocal performance at the University of Manitoba, where she studied with Tracy Dahl and Monica Huisman. Her operatic roles at the University of Manitoba included Marchesa di Melibea in Rossini's Il Viaggio a Reims, Hermia in Britten's A Midsummer Night's Dream and Carmen in the Opera Scenes Performances. She also performed the role of Marcellina in the U of M Opera Theatre's production of Le Nozze di Figaro. She toured two seasons with the U of M Opera Theatre School Tour where she performed Frau Viemann/Witch/Wolf in Dean Burry’s Brother's Grimm and the Witch/Mother in Humperdinck’s Hansel and Gretel. Some of Melanie's other operatic engagements include the role of Nancy in Benjamin Britten's Albert Herring with Opera Nuova, Ruggero in Handel’s Alcina with AEDO and Sesto in La Clemenza di Tito with Manitoba Underground Opera. Most recently she performed Béatrice in Fraser Lyric Opera’s inaugural performance of Béatrice et Bénédict. Melanie is the co-founder of Fraser Lyric Opera, owner of the Northern Vocal Arts Academy and the Artistic Director of the Bel Canto Choirs.
